Pilot Bushing/Bearing?

Matching a 1968 230 I6 to a 1983 T-5. The pilot bushing is quite a bit larger O.D. than the S-10 pilot shaft. Can anyone tell me what pilot bushing/bearing I should be using?

Re: Pilot Bushing/Bearing?

The stock pilot bushing should fit. I don't quite understand the question. The OD of the pilot bushing fits in the crank. The ID should slip over the trans. input shaft with minimal to no play. I would not use the brg. type. It can damage the shaft on the trans.

Re: Pilot Bushing/Bearing?

The bore size on 68 pilot bushing is 0.592 http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...2325&ppt=C0015

Using the O'Reilly's cheat sheet. The an S-10 pilot bushing is 0.592 ID as Wrenchbender ret said above. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...2325&ppt=C0015 Use the bushing that matches the engine and you are good.

The one for the 230 fits probably 99% of the Chevys made between 1946 and 87 except the S-10 and some other later small engines.

As far as bushing or bearing, the bushing just wears out and gets loose over time (lots of time) while the bearing may get dry and lock up and spin causing the damage that Wrenchbender ret mentioned. The bushing will outlast the clutch at any rate and is inexpensive enough to change it at every clutch change without issue.

Re: Pilot Bushing/Bearing?

After re-reading my post I realized I worded it wrong. I thought the I.D. of the pilot bushing was to big for the O.D. of the s-10 input shaft. Turns out I was wrong!

I guess the stock '68 pilot bushing is the right size for the S-10 input shaft.

Thanks guys.
