transmission crossmember removal

I have a k10 that I want to spend some time cleaning up, and I was wondering if anyone knew if I can safely remove the transmission/transfer case crossmember with the powertrain still intact. the reason I want to do this is it is caked with gunk that I would like to get cleaned up as well as I can without having to remove the transmission. I also have a jack and jackstands that I could put underneath to support some of the weight.

Re: transmission crossmember removal

If you raise the trans/transfer case high enough to clear the mounts[be a good time to change them] and support them with a jack/jackstand, I see no reason you couldn't remove the crossmember to clean it to your liking. Jim
