Help Sourcing a Radiator - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 67 GMC 3/4 ton 250 3 speed no air. I've been to Autozone, O reillys, and Culpepper radiator and they are all selling me the same radiator that does not fit into the support brackets on the radiator support. Culpepper says they cannot repair my old radiator its to far gone.

In order to get the radiator they are selling me to fit I have to notch the lip of the radiator support which to me looks like it will weaken the support.

Is this the correct method of installing a thicker radiator?

I would much prefer a stock radiator for that truck but even LMC does not have a radiator that fits the measurements of my original radiator.

Any ideas? I can send pics later for better clarification.

That's a common mod to add the thicker radiator.The mounts and cushions need to be changed and that requires a notch or slight bending of the support.There have been a ton of them done by members,so I doubt it affects the supports strength very much.The cooling capacity will be enhanced also and it's a good move if you plan on adding air anytime.I think I gave right at $200 for the rad and maybe $30 for supports and cushions.Look at it if you install one,I needed to put a shorter spacer between water pump and fan for clearance.

If it were mine I would get the local autohouse replacement and a set of 4 core radiator supports & cushions, and do the mod. You'll get increased cooling capacity and have a good part that's easily replaceable in the future.

Thanks for answering my post. Yea I guess I can bend the lip vs cutting it. All good points on going with the 4 core. Thanks !!!!
