Rear axle bearing help?

Im in the process of rebuilding my 12 bolt rear out of my 2wd 65 C-10, I removed the seal, bearing, and race out. Its at the powder coater and Im trying to get all the parts.

Do the newer style bearing not need a race? Is now all that needs replaced is the bearing and seal?

Thanks,

Hey! Another Omaha member! I can't answer your question as I haven't made it past the cab on my restoration, but I am interested in hearing how your rearend rebuild turns out! I'll make it back there eventually...

Haha, yeah good to know there is another local guy. Yep, dead in the middle of the rebuild. I have a guy in Fremont that has been doing rearend's for a longgggg time, just in the process of getting all the parts for him.

Hey, if your looking for any cab parts I have some new parts and ended up getting a better cab. Let me know if your looking for something, I might have it.

We got our outer bearings from NAPA, they called them repair bearings since the bearing moved out some and would miss any bad spots on the axle. Cost about 40.00 a pair. worked just fine. Kieth

here is a picture of the repair bearing

Re: Rear axle bearing help?

With the 12 bolts, the axle is the inner race. This is why it is a good idea to check your axles for wear where the bearing rides. If they are worn, you can either go with the axle saver bearings that Kieth talks about, or you will need new axles.

Awesome! I'll have to get his info as I will be doing a thorough rebuild of the rearend to keep it from scattering pieces all over Q when I am on my way to work!

I will be looking for a passenger side door at some point... There are two 60-65 C10s at U-Pull-It's north location right now, but they want $70+ for a door so I have been holding out. I looked them over and didn't see any parts that I needed but you might do the same... Otherwise, let me know what you need and I can check them out next time I am there!
