Headlights: low & high beam
Just picked up an 87' R10. It appears my top & bottom head lights are updated to use 9007 H5 bulbs. In which both top & bottom have these bulbs installed. And I have square running lights in the grille.
Question: High beam, all lights should be on? If so, which lights should be brighter top, bottom, neither? Low Beam, Top lights should be on? Should I be running different bulbs in the low beam vs high beam? Thanks Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Headlights: low & high beam
My lights are now in the proper sequence. I think they need to be adjusted due to low beams are aimed too high vertically, which make oncoming drivers think they are brights. And high beams are aimed too low vertically, giving me the improper angle affect in which a high beam should.

Re: Headlights: low & high beam
Got It.
Both of my low/high bulbs are identical with 3 male prongs, but the female plugs coming from the truck are wired different. Low beam has 3 wires (one for each prong)? High beam has 2 wires (lacking one wire, making it a 2 prong plug)? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Headlights: low & high beam
in the corner of the headlight buckets there is a tab to prevent putting the wrong bulb in
if these tabs arn't bent the high beam lights won't line up right,in the low beam spot and the same in reverse order In my pics I've changed the low to the bottom and the high on top with no issues just by bending those bucket tabs, and of course you switch the plugs too I think it would look cool on a lowered truck....

Re: Headlights: low & high beam
two on for low, and all four on high.
but now the low beams are now in the bottom buckets. engage the high beams and adjust them up from the lows. other gm cars run same bulbs ,the same way , just inside ,outside, not up down I did this on my firebird ,camero, lemans ,grand prix . it's looks cool. but I rewire to run headlights only first pull , second adds the tails.

Re: Headlights: low & high beam
well the two high lights (2 wire bulbs)would have to be swapped and wired to a second set of lows(3 wire bulbs)
1. not sure if it could handle it's extra power "pull" with out more mods 2.you might get pulled over/checked out more, and flashed from oncoming traffic, since your truck would appear to allways have the high beams on all the time

Re: Headlights: low & high beam
That would be a perfect place to use relays, but as others have mentioned, it might get you pulled over or at least flashed a lot more often.
I'm not sure that I follow the logic of lowering the lights on a lowered truck though? Lifted truck, yes Back in the day when the "lift laws" were implemented here in Ohio, headlight height was one of the limitations. Some guys would put covers over the original locations and put the round style regular headlight bulbs into off-road light housings (KC lights) That didn't last very long though, they came out with frame height measurements based on GVWR after that.
