1966 Suburban fuel tank question

I just picked up my 1966 Suburban fuel tank from the radiator shop. They thought they could boil it and repair it. WRONG- the whole bottom is gone. Any ideas? Can I get a new tank with spare tire cut out? Any ideas?

I don't think that style of tank is reproduced.

1. get a used tank in better condition or
2. Move the spare tire inside and use a blazer tank or equivalent replacement.

Re: 1966 Suburban fuel tank question

The Suburban and Panel tanks are not reproduced. The closest one would be the '69-'72 Blazer tank, but it does not have the spare tire cut out. If you have to have the spare tire cutout, you will have to have one made. You might check with Dave Boyd in the Vendors Marketplace here on the forum. He builds aluminum gas tanks for the '60-'72 trucks.

You might get lucky and find an original tank that is in good useable condition.

Re: 1966 Suburban fuel tank question

Thanks for all the input. I did locate another used tank about 15 miles from here. He guarantees it to be good after I boil it out or a full refund. I guess that is where I will start. j

Found a tank in Kansas, had it boiled out, lined and it is just about ready to install. j

Re: 1966 Suburban fuel tank question

Sounds like you already found a good replacement. This company fixed a Dodge tank for my father many years ago. The truck eventually rusted away but the gas tank was still in great shape.

They have been a few car resto magazines over the years. Moyers Fuel Tank Renu in Greensburg, PA (Just East of Pittsburgh)
