Re: Heater control rebuild

Most of the truck parts places have the rebuild kits with steel levers rather than the pot metal ones. I redid one in my 72 K20 , it had 2 broken levers, and now it works great now. I lubed my cables when I had them out after flushing them out with carb cleaner,,, made a big difference. Keep track of where each cable goes . It's a good time to get a new fan switch while it's apart,, if it's not working correctly.

They are not hard to do,,, take your time and make note of where everything was when you started.

Here is a tip I posted back in 2006 about getting the cable retainer clips off without breaking them...

Here is another good link to an old post that will be helpful if you have A/C.

Re: Heater control rebuild

I did mine about 15 years ago.I took a couple of days and did paint and such. The actual work took me maybe 2 hours. They're simple enough to do and as stated will work great if you lube up the cables well.

Re: Heater control rebuild

I just rebuilt mine. The center lever was broken. I bought mine local at Southern Kentucky Classics and it was in an "Old Air Products" package. It was the steel levers. It is a nicely engineered product and probably better than original. It works great and was easy but I don't like the plastic knobs. They look okay from a distance but not as nice as the original.

Re: Heater control rebuild

my heater control need a little work, the pot metal "rivets" let go of the stamped steel frame holding the levers. I took it out, drilled and tapped some small screws into the pot metal. Since I had the kit with a decal I was able to grind the tip of the protruding screws off and apply the decal (which previously I didn't use). While it was apart I snapped some pics.

Re: Heater control rebuild

I just rebuilt mine a year ago. I didnt use the steel arms, though I should have but its not back together yet. I countersunk 4 screws in the front of it, and have nuts holding it in back. That makes it easier to repair should i need to in the future. the screws in front will be covered with the decal. I dont have the decal on yet and can post a pic later today if you need it.

Where did you get the decal? I have the same problem now and I thought of screwing it back on but did not want the screws sticking out the front.

Re: Heater control rebuild

the decal was part of the "kit"
when I rebuilt it originally, I just changed out the broken arms. The other day the framework must have come loose and so I did the screws today and dug out the decal to cover them. The whole kit pictured in post 7 was just under $30 and came with everything in the photo.
