What was the finish on a 72' power brake Booster? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Someone painted my Power Brake Booster black and it looks really bad. I was wondering if the original finish was that goldish iridescent color? If so where can I get mine re-plated?

Depends on what booster you have, bendix or delco. Don't accept this as fact but I believe the bendix should be a satin black and the delco has a golden cad finish. Eastwood sells a kit for $35 that is suppose to duplicate this finish but I have no personal experience with it. If I was a stickler for originality, I would probably find it easier to buy a new booster with the correct plating. As it is, I blasted my Delco and painted it an aluminum/dule silver color. Looks pretty good too. Hope this helps.

It looks like you have a 4x4 and all of the 4x4's that I have seen have black boosters.

The original finish was rust, at least the ones I have seen that were not black were that color.LOL

For 35 bucks I think you could buy a new one

Be carefull about what paint you use as the brake fliud takes most stuff right off. I think thats why they were never painted.

Actually rust is the original color and they are correct. Be carefull about being a smart aleck or no one will answer your questions next time.
I think you owe them an apology.

No apology needed here, I am just glad I could help. If you just look at the thing you can tell if it was cadmium plated as it would not be rusty. It would be ... well the color of cadmium. If it was painted, they paint them with the same black paint that they painted the frames with. Don't see any paint on the frame???That is because the paint is notorious for washing off in a few years and rusting. Hence rust colored boosters.:p

On a side note all that I said was in jest. If it was offensive then my apologies.

It seems to me that the half tons seem to be black whereas the 3/4 and 1 tons seem to be that metallic color.
