The restoration of my 87 can now begin!!

I just purchased a 2004 Silverado 2500 LD. It's a 2wd crew cab. Fully loaded with OnStar, XM Radio, Leather interior, heated seats, power everything. 6.0 Automatic.

Anyone know of a website for the 6.0 performance upgrades??

Congrats on the new ride. I guess they finally started calling the 1500HD what it really is now. I hope they have the dreaded engine knock fixed by now.

There is also a website called LS1 Tech you can visit. Someone on that board put a 6.0 into his 1500 and there's a video of him racing and beating a couple of "racers" out in where ever he's from (i forget)

Congratulations!

CSK (Cold Start Knock) is a noise that generally occurs during the first 8-10 seconds after being started. Mid-2003 motors received several updates that GM claims solved the issue. It's nothing to worry about and no study has proven a decrease in durability/reliability. I would only be concerned if it uses excessive oil. Your truck should be fine though.....

Low87on20s, All the LS based motors have a cold start knock. GM "claims" to have fixed it, but there are still cases of it out there. As BaggedC10 said, it hasn't caused any decrease in durability/reliability, it is just annoying that a $30-40k has an engine knock.

I have 68k on my 02 1500HD and so far it hasn't failed. Good luck if you every want warranty work done. All the major manufacturers have adopted the policy to fix as little as possible...

chevy talk .com has a 99 up forum. You can learn about piston slap. i have a 02 silverado with the 5.3 with 39k and dont have piston slap. But a co- worker with a 02 with the 5.3 does.

I really needed a new truck. Driving a 17 year old truck in Atlanta traffic was getting to me, plus my family is getting larger so the crew cab will really help out. I put 20K down on this one so I didn't have to finance too much and have a huge monthly payment. My payments are at a level so that I won't be truck poor during the restoration.

About the knock. Thanks for all the info guys! I went to FSC and read all about it. I currently feel hopeful that my 04 won't have the problem.

I have been trying to buy a set of those for a couple months. Bud works at a local dealer and keeping an eye out for some take off's but no luck yet.

I want a set of 8lug 20s or 22s. How much are these stockers worth? I might ponder the idea of getting rid of them now.

Dealer had the last set of take offs like yours listed for $600 at the parts counter. Sold them for $500 with tires that had under 100 miles on them. My Bud thinks he could get them to me for around $400 maybe less if he catches the sales manager in a good mood. Problem is they haven't had anymore take off in 4 months. They have a set of Half tons off a Silverado unless they sold them but I need the 8 lugs.

I may end up buying a set of 589 or OutlawII's soon. I have 2 heat warped rims and it's beating the snot out of the truck at 70mph and you know around here if you drive 70 your going to get rear ended.

I'm going to end up paying $500 for just the above rims at a little bit of a discount. I'd give you $500 with tires for sure. I have to get this done in the next couple of months. I have a couple a 1,000 + mile trips planned in the spring. I need straight rims before I go.

Which dealer does your friend work at? Although I live right next to Hardy Chevrolet and I used to drag race with the Hardy boys, I do know someone at Bill Heard Town Center where I purchased my truck.

Cartersville Chevy. It's listed as Mainstreet Chevy in the book. Just changed name or ownership recently.

Yeah I haven't Check with Heard. That's where I buy my parts. I live near there.

Hehehe Yeah it was pretty bad. I guess it's been about 6 since I went. My bud lived in Hiram at the time and we would load up the minivan and go.

You ever see a hugger orange beat to hell 74 Blazer on 35's or a BIG forest green 79 with a 84 front clip sometimes on 42's sometimes on 35's around there? Both my buddies and live in the area. The Forest green is the one that works at the Dealer up here in Cartersville. Can't be to far from you if your by Hardy's.
