Air Cleaner for 62 C10 6cyl
I am new to the site and to old PU's. I recently acquired a 62 6 cyl stepside shortbed. As part of the initial cleanup I took off the oil bath and cleaned it. When putting it back on I realized it had developed a slow leak. Appear to have a pin hole in the bottom of the oil reservoir (probably created by my cleaning). My question is should I repair / replace this or just get some sort of a dry air cleaner setup? If I opt to go dry does anyone know what to order that will fit and look ok?
Any and all thoughts / opinions / advice / warnings will be greatly appreciated. |

Try finding the pin hole...degrease the inside and outside, maybe drill thru the pin hole with a 1/16" bit so there is a place for a patch to bite both sides and plug it with JB weld or gastank patch. It should hold just fine.
Or degrease and smooth on a coat of paint like glyptol they use inside engines or maybe even a dab of RTV will seal er up. |

Will give it a try. I used JB weld as a temp patch on an oil pan before and it held up well until I got it welded. Don't know why I didnt think of it for this. Thanks for the help!

JB is the second most wonnerfull goo after BluGoo (Blue RTV!). Always try a selection of goos first then if that don't work, get some electrical tape and wrap it up good. Ask the fellas on here they'll tell ya, I love me some BluGoo and Electrical tape.

It worked fine. Did a cleanup and degrease, applied the JB weld, waited 24 hours and did some painting. Put it back on the truck today. No leaks, looks good as a 50 YO part is likely to look. Thanks for the advice.

Glad it worked for ya. Oil bath air filters are pretty neat.....don't see em much anymore. Most folks that even know what they are prefer not to mess with the mess.
