key switch not working

can u start a truck without thedash cluster in it? i have power to my red wire at switch but nothing when i turn the key. there is another large pink or faded red wire coming ot of the switch that is hot when i turn key on. im still tracin down wires to make sure all hooked up. is there two small wires that come off the starter or just the purple one? if i sound dumb its because occasionally i mite be. lol tryin to learn.

There are wiring diagrams posted(the gallery is down so I can't post a link)that should help sort your wiring.Remember to plug the oil pressure line or you'll have oil everywhere.

Unplugging the dash bezel, will have no effect on starting or running.

Do you have the junction block on the passenger fender with a Red wire from the positive post on the battery going to it? The White arrow is pointing to it in the picture below...

Re: key switch not working

the two purple wires with the plug go to nuetral safety switch. You'll need to put a jumper across those to get power to purple at the solenoid. But, make sure it's in park before you start it!!!!!

As dale said plug with purple wires goes to Neutral Safety Switch, Plug with Orange and White goes to brake light switch, and plug with light/dark Green goes to reverse light switch. The NSS/reverse switch is located at the bottom of the steering column and the brake light switch is located between the pedals.

Glad to hear you got it going. You should be able to pick up the switch at your local auto parts store. They may have to order it for you though.
