instant rev upon ignition???
I have a 69 c10 with a 350 as soon as it starts its reving, don't know anything about cars yet so I'm jumping in blind here. Its not the throtle linkage, when I pull the carb filter off, and look into the first chamber through the flaps it seems as if the second flaps are angled, don't know if they should sit flat or not

Re: instant rev upon ignition???
welcome to the forum!
What kind of carb do you have please? Does it have an automatic choke? Stock motor? More information would help.

... It depends on how much it revs. If it has an automatic or electric choke it is normal for them to run at a higher RPM until they warm up. If you hit the throttle a couple of times when it is running high does it idle down some? Do you have a throttle return spring on it? Single spring or double? LockDoc

Re: instant rev upon ignition???
So it was a sticking choke, I have done a rebuild of the carburetor running smooth.

Re: instant rev upon ignition???
So here is some fun to mull over, I drove her 100 miles home(no issues and a few stops along the way to sight see and hike) and now 2 days later she has issues starting up and stalling during idle. Could I have rebuit the carb wrong?

Re: instant rev upon ignition???
Still sounds like the choke isn't set correctly and once warmed up has no effect on driving 100 or more miles, only start up.

Re: instant rev upon ignition???
Well I haven't driven her far after I have had the idle issue, so any ideas on what I should try for my choke?

Re: instant rev upon ignition???
Hard to explain without being there but sounds like not loaded enough to start properly. Basically need it to close cold when the pedal is depressed once with enough force to be closed just snug but if to much will stay closed and flood a bit, in other words not come off quick enough but if not enough force or tension will try to flutter while cranking it and not be closed enough to work properly. Just try to adjust it a bit tighter, a bit at a time I guess, trial and error right.

Re: instant rev upon ignition???
I noticed you live in Cal. is Santa Cruz northern or in the southern part of Cali? The reason i am asking is, i live in VA and i have my choke wired open i really dont need it , it never gets cold enough, In the winter time on cold morning i just have to keep it running for a min or so until it starts to warm up enough to idle,
something to think about

Re: instant rev upon ignition???
Good point BigMac, I live where it gets killer cold, so we need chokes and set just right, in this case could just wire it wide open and warm it a little as you mentioned, good advice where the cold never really comes.
