Explain these springs to me.

This is the rear springs on the K30 I just bought. I assume all the uppers are all overload springs. What is the very bottom bar and the single leaf under the main pack. This truck was obviously built to haul some weight.

The factory GVWR sticker is gone but by the VIN it is already rated between 9-10000 lbs.from factory let alone all of that.

Looks like some kind of traction bar to me. I don't think I've ever seen that many springs on one truck!

Looks like a spring pack off of one of our garbage trucks.

Re: Explain these springs to me.

The extra springs on top are over loads. The slide on the pice above them essentially the same as a shackle would pivot. You see that type of set up a lot on big rigs. As for the bar, maybe a home fab traction bar set up? With all those springs I don't see why you would need it though. Have any more pics of it?

Re: Explain these springs to me.

The bottom arm piece is to limit axle wrap. They are called something like a "traction lift" or something like that.

Re: Explain these springs to me.

If you haul a heavy as hell load its a good idea to keep the axle from wrapping up when you start off from a stop. Your so heavy that the axle will wrap the springs before the truck moves.

Re: Explain these springs to me.

here's a thought, worn springs from heavy hauling maybe?
there should be a gap between the overloads & the stops, & the main leaf looks like it has a sag happening right at the front eye.
check out the spring eye's on the new packs for my k30 (3800 lb, 9 leaf)

those traction lifts might have been added to level out the truck. the t. lift clamp is also short & missing a bolt. it should "clamp" the spring pack

I haven't got underneath it yet but do know there is a gooseneck plate and ball in/under the bed. I will see about getting some additional pics. This may have been used to pull the guys truck pulling trailer. Not sure about that though.

Re: Explain these springs to me.

Here are a couple of pics from a few different angles that I just snapped. The last one is the front pack. It is a Superlift set that has five leafs.

Re: Explain these springs to me.

Front set. After looking at the rears on camera I think I will be looking into some new springs. The centers look smashed where all the springs come together.
