oil pan gasket
1964 I6 230. On the gasket that runs the length of the pan, should I put sealer or no? If so which kind? I know to put RTV in the corners. I am replacing a leaking rear main seal. Also any tricks would help.
Thanks Larry |

Re: oil pan gasket
I have had good results by gluing the gasket to the block with contact cement and then using black permatex form a gasket. The sticky stuff. I find that when I use RTV with a gasket, the gasket has a tendency to move around.
I have a tendency to over tighten as well. I use a nut driver, or a 1/4" ratchet set, even a tourqe wrench. You can always tighten things up a little more, but you can never go back. |
