1970 Door Panels - Nobody makes them?

I bought a pair of LMC plastic door panels for my '70 Sierra Grande, and unfortunately they're a joke. They're hard ABS plastic.

I'm wondering if anyone knows who makes a GOOD reproduction (in blue, for me). I called Just Dashes and they said they do not do them because reproductions are available (not withstanding that's debatable).

It's very important to me that they look like stock originals when.

Thoughts?

Re: 1970 Door Panels - Nobody makes them?

I bought the metal panels for about 80 bucks from lmc and was pretty happy with them. I was afraid of the plastic. But I hope to upgrade them some day by covering them with vinyl, but if you go that route be sure to put cloth under the vinyl so they can breathe! You know what they say about opinions, thats just mine.

Vinyl skins are available to re-wrap your door panels. I don't have a link. But,look around, they are commonly available. LMC offers a lot of crappy "close but no cigar" "replacement" parts,as opposed to "restoration" parts. You need to watch for that when dealing with them.

Re: 1970 Door Panels - Nobody makes them?

I sure hope someone can point us at good skins - says above they're "widely available", and it's all I need, as I still have my original panels.

In fact, except for -one- tiny split they were perfect. Now I wish I'd just super-glued that split and left them alone, they were close to mint :-(

Re: 1970 Door Panels - Nobody makes them?

Have you called SMS fabrics down in Canby, OR? They stamped the scrolls in the NOS material I had them make for a seat on a 69. I thought they could do the door panels too.

I just checked the website and they do door panels.

So are the originals unuseable now? What did you do to them?

Re: 1970 Door Panels - Nobody makes them?

Dave....here are a few that sell what u need: Manes Truck Parts, Classic Heartbeat (member-Wes), Classic Parts of america, member "Truck Seats", Frank (member PICKMUP) etc. They sell the skins with the woodgrain and you can glue them to the metal door panel. Some have reassembled ones but they are plastic panel backed. Trevor

Re: 1970 Door Panels - Nobody makes them?

^^^ Yeah,I meant to be more clear about that. You want to "skins" to put on "your" steel panels, not the assembled panels...since they use plastic panels.

What's with all these websites offering items with NO description? Not just truck parts,I see it all the time and it bugs the crap out of me. Don't people need to know what they're buying before pushing a button to buy? I sure as hell do. I think those Brothers panels look like the molded plastic junk, too. Sure would be nice to know.
