i6 to SB clutch linkage

I replaced my 250 with a GM 350 crate. New motor is in the correct V8 location. The original 3 speed is staying. I have Hedman Headers.

In the photo, the z bar on the top is from a 68 GMC 327, the bottom is my old one from the 250. New one is 1" too long. the old one seems just a hair too long. the old one seems like it will rub the header. Anyone know what's going on here?

Re: i6 to SB clutch linkage

If I removed the riveted bracket on the frame and reconfigured it mount to the side instead of the top, it looks like I'd have tons of header clearance.

Mine use to hit the header too I just bent the lower arm on the z bar out so it would not hit the original z bar looks like the right one.

Re: i6 to SB clutch linkage

So I took the bracket off, flipped it around, added more 3/16 metal, drilled new holes, and problem solved.

Good job! Could help someone else that may encounter the same problem doing a swap.

A little work and some ingenuity helps when working on these old trucks.

Most of these trucks had Saginaw and or Muncies and for normal use they can handle V8's well. I remember guys drag racing completely stock small blocks with these three speeds.

I haven't driven it yet, but I plan on treating it like a red headed step child. As soon as something breaks, I'll post it!
