You would only need to change the tail shaft housing if it was a 4wd tranny, the 2wd tranny is fine as-is. The other tailshaft change was switching to a 6bolt talshaft housing for the 1998 revamp. That would only apply if he was trying to use an old 4l60e, which would also have a 300mm shaft, different planetary etc etc.

and no car ever had a 4.8 or 5.3
