1964 C-10 factory ac

Hey, I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for any info on factory ac. I just bought a 1964 c10 SNB with factory ac. Looking to restore it and wanted to keep the ac original. Dash components are there and all under hood except compressor and brackets. Original motor and trans gone and now has 350/350 turbo.
I'd appreciate any help on this. Thanks.

Re: 1964 C-10 factory ac

First of all, let me welcome you to the forum. This is a great site, with very friendly members, and tons of info to see. You will like it here.

The '64 A/C was a dealer-only installation. The '65/'66 trucks with A/C were installed on the assembly line. You are very fortunate to have a lot of the very hard to find parts, such as the center dash bezel, the evaporator assembly, and the A/C-specific heater box. Those are not easy to find, and they bring big money.

My '64 is an A/C truck as well. Oddly enough, when I got the truck, all of the inside parts were there, and everything under the hood was gone. It's usually the other way around. I was able to find all of the stuff I needed, and if you look at my build thread, I have steps where I restored the evaporator box, the heater box, and the heater control. It might be helpful to you. Also, I highly suggest getting a factory assembly manual and most importantly, a 1964 Accessories Installation Reference Manual. That does a great job explaining the A/C system and how it's installed, along with the wiring.

Yes, welcome to the forums.

I know little about ac trucks.

I think there might be some info in the FAQ's.

Re: 1964 C-10 factory ac

Thanks for the information. Just what I was looking for. This seems like a great forum and I've found some good threads on here. This is my first venture into the 60-66 realm. I have had a couple 70 models and currently have a 70 cst LWB. I found this 64 by accident when getting one of my other trucks serviced. I have 5 Chevy trucks at the moment; 64 c10, 70 cst, 99 Z71, 04 Silverado SWB and a 06 with a service bed on it. I also own one lone Ford, a 57 SWB that is a V8 automatic truck.

I am most enthused about this 64. I picked it up for $500.00!! The guy that owned it is a mechanic I know and had $350.00 in it and then sold it to me. Finally got to be in the right place at the right time instead of hearing about somebody else's good fortune!

I did. Got the 70 for $1100. It runs and drives, 350/350, pdb, ps,ac.

Have found a bed that is correct for the 64, trying to negotiate the deal now. Being used as a trailer. No floor but in vgc.
