Re:
They call them "reversiable pto's". They are used to power winches and pumps that require power in both directions. As far as I know, you can use a Chelsea model 352 or 340 pto units. Both have one speed forwards and one speed reverse. Used will be very hard to find and new will be expensive. The Chelsea catalog does not list input gears for the SM420 any longer. Muncie Power also list models "RG" and "RL" reversable pto units. Pto's and industrial type equipment seems to be out of the realm of most auto/speed/4x4 shops. There business is more to the play/recreation use of 4x4 trucks. You should be looking in the area of heavy duty trucks to find out what you want. I installed a Ramsey L600 on the front of a 88 V30. Talking to most auto/4x4 shops to aquire parts was like talking to room full of idiots. Like I said, go see the people that use trucks for real....

Re:
During the period your truck was made Muncie did not mfg pto's, they were all made by Dana-- Chelsea. Go to your local PTO and driveline shop, they should be able to help you........there also may be some reversables made by Tulsa Winch but they will really be scarce.
There used to be a company called Kimbal truck parts in Birmingham, Alabama. They were big into reversable PTO's for Utility company front mounted winches. Look around the salvages for old railroad line trucks with front mounted winches........ I called a guy at Stewart Wholesale in Shawnee, Oklahoma, 1-405-273-1813, he said he might be able to scrounge up a reversable but it would take some time since he will have to look for it in a big building. See if he can help you. Kieth (this is where most Worm gear winches were designed and manufactured (for the oilfield) I used to work for Tulsa Winch, will take a look around.......to you want this pto for the transfer case or for the sm420 transmission....???? also where is the winch mounted front bumper or behind the cab ?
