good tinkering gunny. as for the rear combo - I would plan on locking it up in overdrive, regardless of good news/horror stories you've heard. I think slow-1's setup makes a lot of sense (i.e. the optional switch-thrown locking in 3rd). If you're happy with it as is, I wouldn't mess with a gear change. If you're not feeling any bog when you lock up or when you shift into o/d, keep what you've got. Ideally though, a 3.73 is what the factory normally used with 700R4s and 2004Rs, if that gives you any indication what a great combo they are. Personally - I like the 3.42 route since the 700R4 already has a 3.X+ 1st gear.

The rod sizes are the first way to change rich/lean mid-throttle. If your plugs are white go a size smaller on the rods, if they are dark go a size bigger. If you can't get them to be tan changing rods, then you need to change jets.
