Rear end question.
Hey guys, quick question. My 72 Chevy truck has a built 327 ~350 hp, TH350 and I have a factory 12 bolt rear-end under my truck, with what i assume are 3:07 open gears. I have a 12 bolt 3:73 posi but, it is a 69 or 70 six lug rear axle. Will I be able to swap the 3:73 ring and pinion and posi center out of the 6 lug into my 5 lug axle? Also, is there a huge difference in a 3:73 posi compared to a 3:07 open? I'm a senior in high school, so yes, I want to have fun with it! haha

Re: Rear end question.
You can swap the posi, carrier with ring gear, and pinion into the 72 differential and use your 5 lug axles. You will want to set up the the gears so that the back lash, gear pattern and pinion bearing preload is correct. While you have it apart make sure the bearings are good and that the 72 axle bearing surfaces are good. New seals and gasket will be needed.
It will make a big difference in off the line acceleration. Gas mileage will go down but fun will go up! Jm
