some help please

I just got my 1st pickup and I need a little advice. I have a 68 GMC camper custom 3/4 ton. 327,400 turbo, ps,pb, and air. I got it from the original owner, a 74 yr. old gentleman that tore it apart around 83. The papers masking things up are from 85. It has been in a thousand (at least) pieces since then. I have the service manual, but is there a body manual that goes into more detail in body assembly? As I say, this is the first truck I have done, plenty of others but no trucks. It has 3 gas tanks, and they look to be factory. The sticker on the glove box is long gone, so any help would be appreciated.

Ah, a jig saw puzzle for sure. You need an assembly manual, I got the digital version, easy to use and you can print out a page at a time if needed. You can also post pictures here and get expert advise. Lots of folks have done frame offs and are very familiar with these things inside and out.

I rebuild wrecked late model trucks for a living and have since the 80's. I also restore old muscle and old trucks for fun. Right now [I own a body shop] the shop is full of a 70 model truck I have two of those and a 68 GMC that are in different stages of frame offs all three. It looks like a 1970's shop threw up around my place. I have parts for all three truck plus two more parts trucks everywhere in orderly piles. But it is nothing compared to having one of those later model trucks torn down, I just did a frame replacement on a 04 crew cab 1500 HD a few weeks ago and it is quite different. But those wires and things won't plug back up but in one place. Anyway I think an assembly man is the way to go if you are a little uncomfortable with the exploded truck syndrome. You might also get yourself an LMC truck catalog for the 68 year. It is free and has several nice diagrams of the body and frame components.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I will have an assembly manual on the way today. You guys are correct, its like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Anything can be fixed if you throw enough time and money at it, right?LOL

Don't be to intimidated. These trucks are pretty dang straight forward. With a manual, you'll have no problem, once you sort out what goes where. I would start with the frame and make it a roller first. Then concentrate on getting the cab assembled. Its the perfect time to replace all the bushings and ball joints!

Sorry for the crappy pic. This is it when I picked it up from where it has sat since 1985. The engine and trans don't look like they were ever out. I don't think the cab was off either. I will post more pics as it looks more presentable.
