Need help

Hey trying to take apart part of my steering system but not sure what the part is called it connects to the pitman arm. The three bolts are off but can't get the washers off. I have been bashing it with a mini sledge and it won't budge at all. Maybe a torch? Thanks for the help.

"even a rock will crumble
if you smack it night and day"

Aerosmith

I have never had the pleasure of removing one of those steering arms but I would expect a lot of hitting, possibly at least an hours worth. An air hammer might help too. After an hour of smacking it and air hammering, I would probably try the air chisel and try to separate it. I had a balljoint once that I had to hit for about an hour. I said "See, if I would have quit pounding at half an hour I would have failed" That's when I start singin' Aerosmith and keep smackin' it.

Re: Need help

they can be a real pain to get off. I have had the pleasure of changing several of them. Every time i lifted a truck. Usually takes a rosebud torch. Heat them up and beat the arm with a hammer until the wedges pop.It takes a bit to get the conical wedges out. but once they pop, they slide off. Then just beat the arm until its off
