Painting an L6 mainfold

I am painting my intake manifold and was going to use chevy orange. Is it necessary to use a high heat paint like header paint 1200 degree or engine paint rated at 550 degrees would work?

Standard engine paint will work on the intake just not on the exhaust manifold. I would definitely use the clear coat in addition to the color coat.

Biggest thing is prep.Get it clean.Sandblast if you can or use a wire brush on a drill and really get it as clean as you can. Then wa**** well and use laquer thinner to clean it even more. After that paint it well.I haven't tried clearcoat but it should help keep the paint better.

Re: Painting an L6 mainfold

I painted using VHT Very High heat manifold paint. Their engine paint goes up to 550 degrees this is like 1300-2000. Looking at the old pictures the original manifold paint was completely gone around and under the carb probably from gas leak more than anything but decided to go with higher temp paint.

Think I like the black better anyway.

Thanks for the help!!!!

It's not orange, but I used Eastwood's high-temp.
