positive camber

I just did a disc brake swap on my 70 c10 with 2 1/2" drop spindles. I
Put on a set of 2010 silverado stock wheels and now I have positive camber. I didnt have any before and the spindles are suppose to keep all the geometry the same. So im wondering if anyone knows why this has happened. I did take all 3 shims out of the front on the control arm and 2 out of the 3 on the back. It helped alittle. My guess is that the original springs in the front are just so old that they have saged some and is causing this. I wouldnt think it would be the wheels. If anybody has an idea let me know I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: positive camber

If you swapped in new springs, yes on the possible sagging w/the old units.

Despite drop spindles 'not changing position of things' other than the spindle shaft itself, many times the steering arm isn't exactly in the same spot so re-aligning is required.

Re: positive camber

Do you mean positive camber or negative? If the front springs sag they will cause negative camber. Pulling the shims should have helped. Put up some pics of what you are seeing.

Re: positive camber

I don't know what machine your Aligner uses but I've been messing around with them for a while. Turns out that some of the latest machines take all the thinking out of aligning them. Even don't have that option its still a good way to go. I did a lot of research and in the end it came down to this..

You did good by removing shims but if toe was in good shape before, it'll definitely change if you remove shims. It'll cause toe out.

Re: positive camber

Thanks for all the info. I finally got to take it in for an alignment and they told me that they couldn't do it until I got a new idler arm, pitman arm, and upper ball joints put on so I just ordered them and got them in wednesday hopefully I will have time sometime in the next couple of weeks to put them on then finally get it aligned. Which the ball joints being totally wore out could be some cause of the camber.

No, the weight of the vehicle bearing down on the suspension will always cause it to go negative. Those steering components don't have any effect on the camber either.

I think you need a better alignment shop.

x2 or the summary above left out other details unless he was just recommending doing the BJ's because of excessive wear & 'suggested' the other items (I would generally suggest replacing everything too).

Re: positive camber

They just said I would need to replace them before they can do an alignment which the ball joint are wore out. Better to do it now than later. Once I do and get it alinged ill find out if there are still any issues. Thanks for the info guys
