New drop springs 1 inch lower on drivers side tried everything?
Ok... stuck these in today, they are 5" springs drivers side sitting about 1 inch higher than passenger side. I tried everything, rotating spring, flipping spring, seating and re seating 4 different times. Tried swapping shocks from side to side, nothing worked. ???? Not sure what else to do... is there a way to compress the drivers side spring more, maybe jack up the trailing arm under it and tighten the sh*t out of it? Am I gonna have to cut part of the coil? what can I do? Am I gonna have to shim the passenger side to raise the passenger side, is that my only option?

Re: New drop springs 1 inch lower on drivers side tried everything?
Would the panhard bar make a difference in the drop since its still stock? Still new to this American stuff after not working on one in 25 years. Im gonna install new cpp 2.5 drop spindles and cut one coil off the front on tuesday or wednesday. Will that make a difference in the rear?

Did you try moving the coils left side to right side ? To see if it's the coil itself ?

Re: New drop springs 1 inch lower on drivers side tried everything?
Its the only thing I didnt try.. was going to but was just worn out after the madness. I will tuesday or wednesday when I install the new spindles. Ill be doing the work at the dealership my dad works at so it will be much easier to mess with on a lift than on my back in my garage. If it is the coil itself what are my options?

Re: New drop springs 1 inch lower on drivers side tried everything?
Can I just unbolt the panhard bar without jacking anything up? Never removed one before..

Unbolt the panhard and the shocks then measure it again. Also measure from the trailing arm to the frame just behind the spring. The stock panhard bar will shift the rear over an inch or so with a 5" drop. Where did you get the springs from?

Okay just curious, some springs have a part number or stamp on them. I think "CPP" has part numbers printed or painted on them. "Brothers Trucks" springs are stamped into the spring near the top. Mine are from Brothers, the fronts have "F1" (front 1" drop) stamped on them and the rears have "R5" (Rear 5" drop) stamped on them.

Is it level in the front? Just thinking maybe the driver's side front is 1" higher than the pass side ?

Re: New drop springs 1 inch lower on drivers side tried everything?
it is very much normal due to 40+ years of the frame being tweaked
finish your lowering by getting shock relocaters(better riden) and adjustable panhard bar(centered rear) then if you r bothered by the height difference either go to a frame shop to have frame squared or shim the body for cosmetic looks

Re: New drop springs 1 inch lower on drivers side tried everything?
You might also want to measure from the frame to the floor rather than the wheel well to the floor to see if maybe the mounts for the bed might be worn out.
I'd get the spindles installed and go out and drive it a few miles and then park it on a real flat and level surface and measure it both at the body and at the frame. One last thing, did you measure it before you put the springs in? the truck may have leaned to one side before you put the new springs in and now it is more noticeable. It could be that one front corner is sagging causing the rear opposite corner to be high too. That can be some what taken care of with what GM calls and "air conditioning spacer" that fits on top of the spring and was often used to level vehicles at the dealerships.

Re: New drop springs 1 inch lower on drivers side tried everything?
If the frames damaged it can cause a uneven ride height which can be resolved by a good shop. But its also likely if the rear springs are a imported brand they were never checked to make sure that they were a matched calibrated set as we've dealt with literally hundreds of customers that bought imported springs that caused a uneven ride height that was solved after buying our American made springs.
Our springs are engineered to factory specifications then custom wound and tempered to the specific truck they are purchased for based on ton rating, wheelbase, motor & transmission size, bed style and if truck has A/C or not as these all affect proper spring rating due to changes in weight which we found is better than just pulling a set of springs off the shelf and the same springs shipped to a 6cylinder short wheelbase truck as are shipped to a V8big block long wheelbase as the other companies do. Each set of springs is then checked after the manufacturing process to ensure they are correctly calibrated and a matched set which results in a even ride height. The import springs are mass produced and calibrations aren't checked when making up a pair of springs. If its the frame it can be fixed, if its the springs the only fix is a matched set. Re: New drop springs 1 inch lower on drivers side tried everything?
Thanks for the responses guys. I did measure before drop, rear on drivers side was about 1/4" lower than passenger. The front sits around 1/2" higher on drivers side than passenger side. Well see what happens when I put the drop spindles in tomorrow or wednesday.

Re: New drop springs 1 inch lower on drivers side tried everything?
No I dont think the floor is uneven, I also went out and pulled panhard bar off. The bar made zero difference. May have to do the front and see where it sits then.

Which companies make matched sets of springs?

The cpp springs are stamped, yes, but how do you tell which is top or bottom??
Did you ever get your problem fixed?? |
