engine/trans problem???
i have this 1963 chevy c10 manual trans, its been sitting for almost a year after i worked on it and restored it, engine runs great, has new carburetor, new fuel filter, new sending unit new fuel tank, new alternator, i mean it is ready to drive,,,,,
but after i finished restoring on a tight budget i was wanting it to drive it but every i mean every time i try to drive it and shift into a gear and press on the gas it dies! so i left it for almost a year sitting in the shed its all dusty now, but i have been working on a 1982 c10, |

Re: engine/trans problem???
Let me ask you this, does it just die when you touch the gas, or when you begin to disengage the clutch WHILE you apply the gas. I wonder if it's a motor problem or a drivetrain problem. Does the motor run perfectly smooth in neutral and/or in gear with the clutch fully engaged? Can you easily put the tranny in gear with the motor running and not stall?

in neutral in runs smooth u can ever press on the gas and it accelerates very well,, but when i press the clutch and turn into gear then slowly begin to release the clutch and pressing the gas it dies

Re: engine/trans problem???
So when you hit the gas it dies? Do you let off the clutch an ease into the gas also? Are all your vacuum lines hooked up like dizzy advance? Timed correctly?

Re: engine/trans problem???
Is it an original type tranny with the super low 1st gear? And as mentioned before, vacum lines for sure need to be checked and so do the gaskets between the carb and intake, and the intake to the heads. You know the trick right? Spray a suspected intake leak with WD40 and if the motor speeds up you need to investigate the gasket.

Re: engine/trans problem???
He means are you starting in 1st gear or 3rd? If third it will always be diffucult to get going. Is this a floor shifted 4 spd or coulmn shifted 3 spd? if its a 3 spd on the coulmn are you going for 1st gear? Do you know how to identify the trans you have?

3 speed Muncie is a "H" pattern rev - top left, 1st - low left, 2nd - top right, 3rd - low right
