Re: Fleetbed paint -two tone

Great pictures Jon. Heres what Im confused on, your picture shows a two toned 60 61 GMC dark blue and ivory with the inner bed dark blue. The next picture shows a lighter green 60 61GMC with a white inner bed. Both my lighter colored Mesa tan trucks have white inner beds. Is that the answer ? Lighter colors white bed, darker colors dark bed ?? Either way I think Jake got his answer with your picture of the Dark Blue and white truck !!

yeah that dark blue truck kinda throws a wrench in my theory that all 60-61 gmc 2 tone trucks started out white... here are all the pics I have of that truck, there is a chance that it could have been repainted at some point?? but for the most part it looks like original paint... I mentioned its location, thinking maybe it has the dark bed because it was made at a different plant??

also 1 other og looking 60-61 gmc 2 tone pic I have- light blue-white bed-

Re: Fleetbed paint -two tone

Not very familiar with '60 and '61 GMC's, but they did have more complex paint rules compared to '62 thru '66 GMC's. IMO, the paint scheme differences have to do with where the truck was assembled. East Coast trucks seem to have silver or fawn firewalls and door jams and black rear fender tubs, while West Coast trucks would have body color firewalls, door jams and fender tubs. They red and white '60 GMC in publicity photos was an East Coast truck built at Pontiac Michigan, so IMO, the solid paint tailgate and body colored inner bed would be a correct for an East Coast truck. 60-66's Beige 3/4 ton appears to be a West Coast truck, with tu tone tail gate and white inner bed. Here is a photo of a '60 with the East Coast black fender tubs.
