Re: Why Don't The Chrome Line Up?

cab probably has extensions on the mounts. Or something is wrong with the bed floor cross members.

Most likely raised the cab to clear engine/trans.

Re: Why Don't The Chrome Line Up?

Considering it's a 3/4 ton it should have more clearance in the rear wheel wells. I'm guessing someone didn't put the bed on correctly. It looks like the bed is sitting on the frame?

I did not notice the front bumper. Nice catch.

Whatever caused it, a simple raise of the bed (plus extending the bottom trim a couple of inches toward the front...really unnecessary) looks like this:

i doubt that truck is sitting on an original chevy frame with factory mounts on anything// good idea with poor workmanship causes bad body alignment

Agreed. I've seen guys do this on S-10's with crappy V8 swaps.

Re: Why Don't The Chrome Line Up?

Like others said, looks like they raised the cab. I can't tell from the pics, but it looks like it might be a Longhorn model. I'll bet someone swapped the high hump cab out with a low hump cab and just raise it to clear the drive train.

Re: Why Don't The Chrome Line Up?

That's a good looking truck just from the pic. The engine/trans is an interesting swap. That bed misalignment is an easy fix. One has to wonder if the owner just hasn't gotten around to correcting that or if that's the best he could do with this combo. What else might be "off" on this truck? I assume it's for sale somewhere.

Look at the front filler piece between the front bumper and grille. I think the cab has been raised.

Re: Why Don't The Chrome Line Up?

I bet it was a very well done swap, just never raised the bed. My guess is they intended to do that later (if at all),but knew it's no small deal with the heavy unit in the bed. I just can't imagine anyone going halfassed about such an obviously well thought out, clever, and somewhat complicated project. It looks like quality to me and I'm sure it's a labor of love on a pride & joy truck.

Re: Why Don't The Chrome Line Up?

Here is what his ad says (I thought it would make for some good conversation as it is rare ,,he raised the cab to enable the diesel engine swap) $6000

1969 3/4 ton Longhorn
Excellent condition, 5.8 liter Isuzu Turbo Diesel Engine, 540 Series Allison Automatic Transmission, Disc brakes, 3 20-gallon fuel tanks, custom-built camper with stove, fridge, and furnace.
Engine has 5,400 miles on it
Body is straight, custom paint job in good condition
Great for towing
Brand-new Toyo tires
Fantastic One-of-a-kind pickup!

Re: Why Don't The Chrome Line Up?

Larry you could probably make a good camper/tow vehicle out of this one. Diesel torque and Alllison tranny should make it stout and efficient I would think.

Re: Why Don't The Chrome Line Up?

The diesel guys know much more about these series diesels than me but aren't the Dmaxs derived from the Isuzu designed engines? And isn't this 5.8 Isuzu TD the one GM put in it's trucks in the 90s?
The bed looks to be about 3" lower than the cab. Measure the cab lifts and match them up under the bed to level it out.
As a matter of cosmetics you might want to address the front and rear bumpers while you are at it. Modifying the brackets will no doubt be necessary on both ends.

Re: Why Don't The Chrome Line Up?

Well,Larry, basically you have an Isuzu in your new truck. What do you think of it? Isuzu is one of the top 3 diesel producers in the world. with very good reputation.

Yeah Tim ,,I knew where my Duramax started from how the LBZ Duramax was introduced for the ’06 model year and has a engine that produces up to 360 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.

Believe me I did a lot of research before buying ( I have the cream of the crop as for the Duramax ,,answer to your question ,,is a great big YES )and in fact I ask a lot of questions on this very forum, I bought the last Duramax that one can be tuned and not have to deal with all the new stuff on the 07 and newer ones that take away what it became to be and sought after as the perfect match of engine /tranny..

My question above should of been more direct and ask about the Isuzu engine in the 1969 that I shown above ,,before it was modified with General motors .. so when you stated that it is one of the top diesel motors ,then I guess that answers it for me.. thx friend
