Question about horn button retainer - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I bought a new steering wheel and a horn button retainer kit. I know this has been talked about before. My question is what order does the spring, spring rod and plastic piece go into the steering wheel that touches the signaling cam? Its the 3 pieces on the right. Then also how does the steel concave washer sit on the spring that make contact with the horn? Can't figure it out

Hi Jeff, been many years since i was into my steering wheel. But here it goes, spring in the hole first, silver nail like piece goes on top of spring, head down, small clear ring seats on top and through the nail stem pushed into the housing and seated flush (preventing the nail from flying out of the hole when you remove the wheel). Then the cupped spring steel sits into the steering wheel well with the center area sticking up, the silver cupped piece goes on top of the concave spring steel piece. All of this is held in place with the red piece and screws. Hope this helps. Probably been 10 years since i was inside one but gm, jeeps,amc, had that style. Good luck, Brian F.

Thanks but in my searching everyone said this was wrong from the LMC catalog. But I appreciate you posting this!

The only part wrong is the square#6. Part #8 should be last to install. If you will read the link I explain it also. If u just look at the picture then yea your right.

Isn't the arrangement order incorrect in the #9 box as well?? I thought the pin went in first, am i wrong??

I tried installing tonight but the concave washer that makes contact is supposed to bend down when you push the horn button. Well it pushed down then stayed there. It's supposed to come back up everytime. Anyone had this problem. Maybe it's just a cheap part and I may need to get an oem one?

Did U try and loosening the screws a little? This may solve it. Just tweek them as we say.
