Best place to buy a radiator for 86 C-10
Need some advise where to get the best buy on a heavy duty radiator for hot climate. We live in between Phoenix and Tucson, Az. where it gets super hot in the summertime. I'm helping my grandson put a 350 SBC in his 1986 C-10. It came with a 305, has a puny 2 core radiator in it now, an automatic trans, AC, PS. I'd like some input from the AZ, NM, desert dweller folks that have bought HD radiators or aluminum radiators, which works the best for you, and where are the bargains? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Re: Best place to buy a radiator for 86 C-10
I got a copper/brass Ready Rad purchased online a few years ago for about $140. I sprung a small leak a couple years after purchase which I had fixed locally for about $30. Since then, no problems. I have a 454 and it was only a two row but seemed thicker than other 2 rows I have seen. My truck stays at about 160 degrees with a 160 degree thermostat in Tucson desert heat, but I did replace the fan clutch with an AC Delco and an AC Delco water pump.

We have sold a good amount of the Champion radiators, and haven't heard any negative feedback on them. They are a great radiator for the price.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm going to pass the info on to my grandson and let him decide which one to buy. After all it's his truck and his cashola. I appreciate it. Runningiron

Re: Best place to buy a radiator for 86 C-10
Runningiron it has held up good. Had one whole but my fault. Have a electric fan with the ties that go through radiator to hold fan. One corner caused a very small leak. I'd recomend going with a fan shroud if you go electric so won't happen. Travis @ pro performance is a excellent guy to deal with.
Travis do you sell just the fans n shroud |

Yes, we can get just the shroud and fans, and they run $210 + $15 to ship. You can also get them all separate if you would like. I don't have the shrouds on the web yet, but here is a link to the fans.

For max cooling, install a diesel or 454 radiator. Both will fit with the proper upper radiator brackets and hoses. I run a 454 radiator on my truck.

Re: Best place to buy a radiator for 86 C-10
If you want a serious cooling assembly for your climate, I have a 3-row copper/brass used in factory BB trucks-I outfitted the radiator with a new Motorcraft fan which is an 18" shrouded assembly, pulls 4000 CFM's and with my 3 speed relay harness design only draws 14, 22 and 28 amps respectively at each speed with no voltage spiking.
The aftermarket doesn't offer anything close to what I build for cooling performance. PM me if you'd like pics or you can call with questions! |

Re: Best place to buy a radiator for 86 C-10
We get a good number of former champion customers. We make a bolt in radiator for your year / model, and we are a supporting vendor here. All of our radiators are hand made here in the USA, and are a bolt-in swap. We include a built in trans cooler at no additional charge as well.
