The wires for the heater are part of the under dash loom. Download the wiring diagrams here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=185856 LockDoc

Look on the left center and count up six wires to the brown heater wire and follow it up to the heater switch.

Re: heater harness non ac
Thanks, I can see the wire path I need, but for some reason I have no brown wire coming from the fuse block near the heater fuse. There is nothing there haha. Can i take the fuse block off and run a new wire from the stock location and over to the heater switch harness?

Here's the back of a fuse block. The connectors look to be riveted onto the block with a spade terminal. If you look between the purple and the gray wire you can see the brown wire for the heater switch. The lighter brown wire is the one for the accesssory on the key switch. It feeds the turn signals and the wiper fuses.

Re: heater harness non ac
I just realized that I didn't know the year of your truck but assuming it is a 67-72 the diagrams are ok. The key switch is in the dash not on the column and if you can get the key switch connector of the key switch you can see the brown wire in the connector. The 67 and maybe the 68 did not have the accessory terminal on the key switch. I have not looked at my 67 but I believe the fuse panel is fed from the buss connection inside the cab.
Given that the 12 gauge brown wire from the key switch feeds the fuse panel wiper, heater and turn signal flasher, these items would not work if your brown wire was cut off just off the key switch. Unless the PO had wired around it.There should be three 12 gauge wires on the key switch. Red for main power, purple for the starter, and the brown wire for the fuse panel. Here's another fuse panel view.

Re: heater harness non ac
OK... well darn.. my wipers work and fuse panel and turn signal flashers work... how did the fan switch get power if the brown wire ends at the ignition switch? Now I'm really confused..

I will check at lunch, but im 80% sure the wipers and flashers work without the key in/on. yes I guess so. Like I said im confused. Wiring is just not my thing and I appreciate you helping me but im not getting it. If the brown wire that is cut has power to it, can't I just use it to power the heater? If not, What can be done, where to run the wire? |

Re: heater harness non ac
The heater motor switch is a 14 gauge so it would have to be at least that big. It probably is but if it doesn't come off the fuse panel or the key switch, where is it getting it's power from? You'd want it to be fused for safety also.
If you dare to pull the fuse panel off and look behind it you can see where the jumper wire is that feeds the heater fuse, wipers, and the signal flasher. If it's been jumped there's probably a jumper from the large red wire coming in that is hot all the time. It's pretty easy just pull the two screws in the corners and pull it out a little. The large 12 gauge red wire that comes in, is the feed wire for part of the fuse panel that is key off. Brakes, turns tail lights and dome, which are all fed by the orange wires. Refer to the first diagram above. Don't let electronics puzzle you. They are nothing more than a road map with the different wires as roads that lead from a start point to an end point. The colors are just the different roads.

I get confused by road maps, and wiring diagrams, that is why I use GPS when possible.
