removing rear leaf springs

Any idea's on how to safely remove rear leaf springs on a 1971 gmc 2wd swb truck and put them under the axle, I know i will need longer u bolts anything else? can I still use my old springs, and how much will it lower the truck

I would look at a flip kit, because you will still need some sort of axle saddle or mounting bracket for the bottom side of the axle when mounting to the top of the spring.

The axle flip kit appears to be the easiest route. I would unbolt the rear end and relocate it with the springs in place. With a few jack stands and a hydraulic jack, you shouldn't have any problems, as its a fairly straight forward project with a flip kit.

I did the DJM rear flip kit. Pretty straight forward
