alternator bracket
Looking for an alternator bracket that bolts to the front of the ram horn exhaust manifold, on the drivers side. Anyone know what will fit ? I've seen one for a '66vette that appears it would fit, but not sure if the bolt configuration was the same on all the exhaust manifolds.

Re: alternator bracket
If stock appearance isn't a factor, then I've done wonders with heim joints (or whatever the ball in socket things that the Nazis invented are called). They don't provide side to side stability, but work great for mounting anything perpendicular to the block/heads.

Re: alternator bracket
It would be for the front end of the manifold, not the side. I believe the bracket that I need has 2 bolt holes where it mounts to 2 holes in the front end of the exhaust manifold and a support bar that goes to the water pump bolt. At least that's what I think is needed. If you search images of 66 corvette alternator brackets, you'll find these, and it appears correct, provided there were not different bolt patterns on the front end of the manifold. My exhaust manifolds came off a 283 motor, unknown year.

Re: alternator bracket
The bracket was used in the mid-60's on most Chevy small block engines.
It is stamped steel. The support leg does go to the top wp bolt. The other end goes to the front of the manifold where the bottom is bolted to the manifold and the top is part of the gap where the alternator sets. The alt sets against the manifold and swivels here for adjustment. The bolt pattern is the same on all of this type of exhaust manifolds. I only have pics of it on the car-Not very visible under the alternator. Mike. |
