Where to find Pitman arms?

I'm rebuilding my front end and the only thing I'm missing out on is a new Pitman arm. Mine's sloppy and needing retirement, but boy, a new one for my build is almost impossible to find!

72 K20, with a 77' K20 Dana 44 front end, however my research shows no difference for the pitman arm between the years 67-87. Any help locating NOS or aftermarket arm would be very much appreciated!

Re: Where to find Pitman arms?

I haven't bought one since GM still had them and never had a problem finding a good used ones,so I didn't realize these weren't commonly available. Of all the GM 4wds I've had I've only had one worn at the sector shaft end. I guess you could post a WTB in the parts board if no one else knows a source. I just checked NAPA and they don't list it.

Re: Where to find Pitman arms?

Did you try NAPA or CarQuest? I would think this is still available, it was a few years ago.

Re: Where to find Pitman arms?

I got a new one from Advance about 3 years agoo.It was for a c10 so there may be fewer 4X4 ones available.

I've definitely done that, if I go the next step clicking on them (10 seconds to do) they only show tie rod ends that attach to the pitman arm and 2wd arms. NAPA didnt have it when I called and assumed Oreillys etc wouldnt have it if they didnt, but ill check.

I'm usually great about finding stuff google/ebay/local but this time the 4x4 arm just sees almost impossible as posting is my last resort in these cases

Re: Where to find Pitman arms?

Google is a keyword search that will find any and all words you type in any order, not necessarily together. In order to aid the search you'd have to use quotations. That let's you search the phrase specifically. I'd say check the parts boards here and put up a WTB.

Re: Where to find Pitman arms?

I rebuilt my front end and bought an Ac Delco pitman arm. I can get part number if you need it. Sorry looks like you need a 4 wheel drive one

Re: Where to find Pitman arms?

It's not exactly a "wear" item, why would you need to replace it?

Re: Where to find Pitman arms?

Yeah, like I said before,I've had only one needing replacement out of the several GM 4wds I've had. This is on the '72 GMC in my sig. I rebuilt the front end and the truck would still "dart". Although the steering box had no slop,I decided to replace it. Burt4x4 was generous enough to give me the (low mile rebuilt) one he pulled from his Blazer when he went to crossover steering. Before I put that in I checked one more time with someone at the wheel while I watched and saw the pitman arm to sector shaft play. I just put a used one I had on and called it good. 99%+ of used ones will be good and that's my point, you'll be fine with a used one. As Longhair said,It's not a (common) wear item. I'm sure this is why you're not finding them offered by replacement part companies. I would like to know how Classic can have these and no one else. Could those be N.O.S? Or,did they have some made and trying to keep it exclusive, which would explain why they need so much for them. If they're not, than what would a N.O.S. be worth???

Talking Re: Where to find Pitman arms?

not to hijack the thread, but I found a similar problem trying to locate a "Drag Link or Center Link for a 71' swb, it's not considered a wear part and thus, been discontinued......just FYI.....

Have u checked into reaming and sleeving it? Even tapered holes can be done simply, with the hardest part the finding of a tapered reamer to borrow. Sleeves--even tapered ones--can be made cost-free using auto body sheet metal. *I've read about it, yet never done it myself; but if I were in your place, I'd be doing it in a heartbeat! Holes and shanks can be done!!!
