Re: Mcgaughys flip kit shock mount problem

Ya I had to trim one on my djm kit too. I also had to buy extra washers to put between the shock an the extender because the extender was to wide. I used two on each side of the shock...

Re: Mcgaughys flip kit shock mount problem

If you not going to use shock extenders your going have to do some grinding to the plate and to the shock nut and bolt .
Its a pain to do had to do the same with mine .

Weld on a shock extender. Gives a better angle anyway and smoother ride

Re: Mcgaughys flip kit shock mount problem

I have McGaughy's 4.5/6 drop kit uninstalled at home. Has anyone talked to McGaughy's about this? They don't recommend shock relocation brackets, just their lowering shocks. They don't even mention that thismight be an issue.

Obviously, this is a problem with other flip kits as well. Is it possible to flip the bolt fir the shock the other way so the head is on the side of the spring plate?

Don't trust a company's advise when they stand to gain profit from it. Run shock extenders. Djm is worse at this as well run the head of the shock bolt on that side and try and gain clearance.

Re: Mcgaughys flip kit shock mount problem

Will stock length shocks work with the extenders in the back, or will I need to run shorter shocks?

Re: Mcgaughys flip kit shock mount problem

They should work fine unless your running drop shackles and a notch. Should be able to touch frame

If you do that then you'll have to remove the spring plate to change the shock....

That's what I did. I'm not planning on removing my shock anytime soon.

Re: Mcgaughys flip kit shock mount problem

bharrison, did you get this figured out? I'm curious what you did to "correct" this. Did you buy shock extenders? Did you flip the shock bolt? Did you clearance the flip kit spring plate?

I'll be running the flip kit and a bolt in c-notch. It also looks like I'm going to be ordering some shock extenders so I can keep my stock shocks for the rear.

Re: Mcgaughys flip kit shock mount problem

I have one other question, bharrison1. It looks like you have new u-bolts. Do you happen to know what size the u-bolts are?

Does anyone know, are the u-bolts pretty universal for all squarebodies?
