Where is the best place to purchase a 700R4? Not looking to go racing just want something reliable.

Phoenix Transmission. I just had a 700R4 built by them for my C10. Talked to Scott over the phone, gave him all my existing drivetrain info and told him what I wanted to do with the truck. Its great. The trans looks and performs flawlessly. Was crated really well, I mean way better than most companies crate em. Custom built torque converter is also included in the prices you see on their site. Trans came with TV cable, quality rubber mount, TC bolts, bunch of miscellaneous pieces you need. All in all I'm very happy with it. Good luck!

i got about 3 grand into mine installed my san marcos transmission here in north county san diego. they went the extra on mine ran cooling lines tru radiator and then thru an external cooler, plus a lokar shifter and trans kit. couldnt be better.

Phoenix trans comes recomended on several forums, but for the extra few hundred I would build local and keep it mostly stock using an MD8 case.

I'm real happy with my 700 from Phoenix, bought it in 2001.

I just ordered mine yesterday. Transmission Exchange here in Portland. I was very impressed at their friendly and helpful staff. I went there and gave them all the specs of my engine and rear end, what it's going in, etc. and they are building it for me. It will be ready next weekend. $1750 including converter.

How about bowtie overdrive? Anyone ever use them? I hear them talked about all the time in magazines and on car related TV shows. Seems they offer complete 700r4s starting at $1095 and up depending on HP needed. This is what I'm thinking of using. Just hope they ain't crap.

Yeah, I went over there with every intention of getting the 2004r and by the time I finished talking with the trans guy I changed my mind once again but I think I made the right choice.

Ouch...... I am pretty thankfull for my local guy here. I just had one built for my C10. I have known this guy for years, even worked for him for a few years pulling trans. I supplied the core, with custom TC at 2800-300 HD I paid $650. With Shift kits, updated drums and servos.

A friend and I acually rebuilt my trans. The parts cost me $500+. I did all the upgrades also with a HD towing converter. I used it in my 4x4 for a while. I would say a bit over 10,000 miles. I then got rid of the 4x4 but kept the tranny. I took it apart and put a 2wd output shaft in it and now I am running it behing my BB in my 65. It also has a transco shift kit (chirps tires shifting into 2nd) and a corvette servo, wider band blah blah blah. For now it is still holding up..

Have firsthand experience with them. Great products and good people. I will buy all my automatics from them.......
