There isn't really a wrong way, it will only go on one way. It mounts to the frame on one end and the drag link in the other end. What's leading you to think yours is wrong?

No, it goes between the axle housing in the tie-rod. An '85 should have a bracket welded to the housing near the center, close to where the tube goes into the casting. The other end is a tapered hole in the tie-rod itself, closer to the driver's side.
