1972 gmc jimmy BBC header ?

So, i have a 1972 jimmy that has a 1973 454 in it with a turbo 400 trans. i recently took the long tube headers off to replace the gaskets due to a leak. my problem is that the headers continue to leak, the reason being is they are sq port headers on oval port heads. But this isnt the only problem that i have, the headers that are on it are the 69110 headman headers and barely fit between the frame rails. i want to replace the headers with the correct ones , but obviously these trucks never came with big blocks. I believe whoever put the big block in just took a hammer to firewall to make it clear and believe that it still sits on the orig 350 engine towers, but how do i know? I plan on putting a 350 back in it in the near future but is not in the budget right now. right now would like to find a header to fit in the mean time. ANYHELP would be awesome!

Thanks,

Nick

I would look for some regular cast exaust manifolds if your are going to switch motors in the future. Why buy headers?

If you are serious about putting a 350 back into the truck, I took the 350 out of my 72 as well as the turbo 350 tranny I would make you a heck of a deal. It needs to be rebuilt, but it was running when I parked it. I am up-grading to a 5.3 and a 4L60 E transmission hooked up to the old 205 transfer case.

Re: 1972 gmc jimmy BBC header ?

I installed some headman elite ceramic coated shorty headers on my 71 2wd blazer w/454 400TH. I had to use a hammer on one tube on the passenger side header to clear the frame rail. I tried Sandersons but I could not get it in, thankfully they were any easy resell. Most of the good headers for this application are from 400-600. From what I remember headman's website was pretty helpful. Try looking at truck and or suburban w/ bbc applications. I don't rember exactly what part # I got. I do have the cast manifolds left from mine if you decide to go that route ($30.00).
Good luck,
Mike
