How good are the GMC REPRODUCTION GRILLES
I have a buddy that is in the final stages of finishing his 1972 4x4 GMC and is wondering how well the reproduction grilles fit and look. He'd be ordering out of Classic Truck Parts. Any info would be appreciated.

Re: How good are the GMC REPRODUCTION GRILLES
OK... Heres my experience. My original 72 grill was ruined by a sub standard plater. I bought one of the aftermarket grills and had to do alot of work and some fudging on holes to get it to fit. Then I had it rechromed by a Good Plater... (Ogden Chrome in Ogden Utah). Now it looks pretty good... OK really good, but do the math. You would be good money ahead to bite the bullet and pay a quality plater to straighten and rechrome a decent original.

Im in the same boat, mine is smashed and I really dont know which route I will go, fix or buy a repro. Probably end up with the repro though, maybe go with GMC Pauls or Classic Heartbeat in hopes of better quality than most other vendors.

Re: How good are the GMC REPRODUCTION GRILLES
I bought a repop that was garbage, had lots of stamp wrinkles in it. I found out this was a common problem with that batch (I also found out that all of the available repops were imported by the same company and they all had the same problems). The flaws were worse than the pics show.
Maybe they have fixed this problem by now.

Re: How good are the GMC REPRODUCTION GRILLES
I was at a resto-parts store over the weekend and was looking at a '70 Chevy grill. The quality was sub-standard! I think my original that I beat the dents out of and stripped & repolished looks better.

Been there too. I'd save my money, be patient and go for a nice OEM grille. I know a guy that has a really nice one, I'll check with him to see if it's still available. I am pretty sure the truck was a 71 though but I think they are the same.

Re: How good are the GMC REPRODUCTION GRILLES
I'd look for oem. However, a guy could buy on from gm and if the quality isn't to your liking you could post it for sale as NOS as I've seen a guy do a time or two. Shoot on eBay a guy is selling one for 200.00 more than I'm sure he ordered from gm for...
All that said...there's just nothing like OEM
