want to install tank where spare tire was - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'd like to install a tank where the spare tire holder is between the frame rails. If you've done this. What did you use and any help would be appreciated. I've heard that s10 tanks have been used.

All the ones I looked at were to wide I belive alot of the people go with the aftermarket tank and set-up.They go for about $250 give or take a few $ and you pretty much get everything tank,strap's,sender unit etc.

Probably any of the venders listed on the front page can get one for you. I know No Limit Engineering and Early Classic Enterprises has 'em - pickmup and WES, too, local to me. Lots of threads on the subject - try a search on blazer tank. Some discussion on whether the poly (plastic) tank holds up as well as the metal one. I have not done this yet, it's on my wish list, too. Good luck, scott

I put a plastic tank on my truck and it was really easy to do. The only hard part was removing the cross bar thats in the way. I am having an aluminum tank custom made that goes under there because I didn't like the way the plastic tank holds up under the heat of the desert. Would highly recommend getting one just make sure it is metal if you are anywhere hot.

The Truck Shop, i got one just this summer from them for $150.00 but that was a show price. complete kit and it was a metal tank

A member, FuelCellGuy will custom make them also. He has two different sizes that will fit right between the crossmembers that are there. They look nice too. Can't remember what he charges though. If you search for his name, you can PM him asn ask about one.

I am in the process of doing this now. I used a Stainless reman tank that I bought from Tim Christian and it fits beautifully. The only thing that you have to decide is where to bring the filler to. I am trying to bring mine through the marker light because I do not have a wood bed yet. You can also bring it out of the taillight but it is a little tighter area. I'll send pics of the tank and the finished product if you wish.

I agree with D-money. If you live in a hot climate don't use plastic. Mine is all distorted from the heat. Go with metal.

They have just come out with this tank and it is perfect for my application. I have painted it black so it will be hard to tell detail but I'll post as soon as I can. I only have a rolling chasis right now but I'll keep you guys posted.

I looked at the thread on the side marker and like his ideas but I am doing a little more drastic. I am adding to the post on the inside of the bed so that the filler neck can't be seen under the truck. I will be using mirrors at the shows and do not want this exposed.

One of the vendors also has the sidemarker fuel filler "Tennman" did on his 4X4.It looks sharp and works very well.

I have looked at Tennman's and love it. I wasn't able to talk to him though. Did he buy the filler neck or did it come from a yard.
