Re: New guy new project

Fired the truck for the first time a few days ago so the push is on to finish it up so I can move it around under it's own power. I only ran it for a few minutes but it sounded great! The plan is to bolt the rest of the tin work on and trailer it to a shop I know that can make up an exhaust system, then I can go through the break in process. New brake lines have been run and I just have to bleed everything and that part will be done.

Mounted the grill into the grill shell and then set the grill shell onto the truck. Installed the other fender and began bolting everything together. I have some issues getting things lined up but it doesn't look to bad considering what I started with. No it's not for sale, the other guys in the shop had some fun last night!

Sandblasted and painted the original hubcaps for use with the rally wheels. I came up with some brackets that I hope will work to mount the stock dog dishes in the rallies.

Re: New guy new project

The truck gets loaded on the trailer today to drop off at a shop for the exhaust system. The push is on to get as much done as I can, the bed is in my garage being prepared for paint and new wood. We sold our house so I have a month or so to get the project all back together then I have to figure how to get it from NY to TN.

Re: New guy new project

Well it's been a busy few weeks so time to catch up on some pics of progess. Here is the 63 loaded ready to go to the shop for a complete exhaust. A good friend let me borrow his Duramax chevy and goos neck trailer...nice set up!

Exhaust all done! Sounds amazing

seems like that clearance is close on those pipes? Is there any axle bashing or frame cuts? what about the shocks?

Yes it's tight, the pipes are right up against the bottom of the frame but it should work unless I load it up to heavy. Shocks are ccp loweered shocks. Pretty stiff

Bed wood being installed. Made my own from yellow pine stained with black rustoleum thinned down then clear coated.

Re: New guy new project

Well after numerous issues with the 1957 283 my friends dropped in a crate motor and I finally drove my truck down here to East Tennessee from upstae NY. Ran like a champ but I do have some hearing loss. Hears a pic at Bristol on the final leg of the trip.

Yes my thoughts as well. I completely went through the engine, bored 30 over new everything and added a set of early 60's power pak heads. The engine ran fantastic but pumped oil from the rear main seal like mad. We tried 3 different types of seals (5 total) and last 2 were installed with the engine on the stand and all leaked bad. I'm led to believe the crank is out of round. I may look for a 60's block with out the rope seal and use my internals for some other project.
