So,what do you think? I say it's about time! A diesel was offered in the little pickups at the beginning and dropped. So,here we go again:

Re: Diesel Colorado
I'd say its about time, I"m a full on diesel lover. But of course with the new diesels they don't sound like a diesel. If I'm running a diesel, I want to hear the rattle of a diesel. I just bought a Toyota Corolla today, it has a diesel. Last I was told it got 55 mpg Hwy when he swapped the oil to amsoil.

Re: Diesel Colorado
GM has to bring a 1/2 diesel to market. Dodge already has '14 models with diesels. The Jeep Cherokee and Ram 1500. The Jeep can cruise over 700 miles on a tank of gas!! I'm considering buy one of the Dodge diesels. Now, if GM brought the Colorado and priced it cheaper. I would go for it.
At least they redesigned it so the headlights are above the turn signals!! I'm in the process of retiring my '96 Jimmy. 233,430+ miles and still going strong. I may end up keeping it as my daily work vehicle. |

Re: Diesel Colorado
Duh, OK I read the link after posting. Not that I'd buy another new piece of crap like I did in 2000, or 05, but I'd want the 2.8.

Re: Diesel Colorado
Agree, this is long over due. Is this a new diesel or has it been around and proven? If the engine and trans are akin to the Duramax & Allison I'm in but will wait until 2016 model. I was waiting for a diesel Wrangler until I saw the article, hummm.

It'll probably be another Isuzu diesel, the Duramax is a GM/Isuzu engine. I would bite for a diesel Colorao, but the price of small trucks has been ridiculous. It's only a few thousand more for a full size truck and the real world mileage is very close. And many modern diesels (from all manufacturers) have expensive maintenance habits due to the overload of emissions requirements on them. Hopefully a little engine would be better, as they aren't trying to claim an ability to tug 30k lbs around.

Re: Diesel Colorado
years ago I stopped along a back road too check out a very severly rusted out
2wd lwb s10 it was around a 84-87 model. the owner came out to talk with me i said "holey cow is this thing rough" how much are you askin? 4k the owner said its got the desiel engine with 250k mi. on it. I was thinkin too myself this guy is nuts. I never new they made a desiel in the s10 but there was one in front of me.an it was the only one i've ever saw. I certainly wasnt intrested in it at that price. but i thought is was a cool begining for a go getter. gm should get with the times an offer it again. look what they can do with the turbo desiel chevy cruze if they can do it in a car platform they certainly should be able too do it in a small truck

Re: Diesel Colorado
It will be a VM Motori engine, VM Motori is half owed by GM & Fiat, Fiat is buying the remaining share from GM, But GM will retain rights to use certain engines.
The Diesels in the Ram 1500, Cherokee & Liberty are also VM Motori, Fiat is the majority shareholder of Chrysler Corp. |

Re: Diesel Colorado
The Colorado diesel is sold overseas. So it does have a history. Search YouTube for videos of diesels. I saw a video of a drag strip run. It was crazy fast for small diesel.

Re: Diesel Colorado
Unless things have changed there is a good deal of work to move a diesel from a market like the UK to the US due to regulations.
There smells like dirty pool marketing to sabotage diesel sales for the makers with diesel trucks ready for sale. And/or they are testing the water. |
