1967 4x4 full time?
I found a 67 3/4 ton 4x4 and it doesn't have lock out hubs? Was that an option?

Re: 1967 4x4 full time?
I believe locking hubs were an option, which most buyers got. So in the absence of locking hubs, there'd be a drive flange installed. The front axles would turn when the truck is in motion, but there'd be no power until the transfer case was engaged in 4hi or 4 low.

Can they be added without doing any work to transfer case?

Yes. Locking hubs are readily available for the Dana 44 front axle. No mods are necessary to the transfer case. The addition of locking hubs only affects the front axles.

Re: 1967 4x4 full time?
My old 76 had a full time all wheel drive, i was able to install locking hubs but i also had to install something into the output shaft to stop the front drive shaft from turning when not being used. It was a NP 203 if i remember correctly, You may have the Rockwell? Don't know if you will have the same issue.

I think it is a Rockwell. This is a truck I am looking to purchase...just trying to determine what it's worth. Low mile fire dept truck, real solid, clean 15k miles.
Any thoughts? |

Re: 1967 4x4 full time?
A number of people here have the Rockwell and many have a 2wd option so don't know why yours would not, I don't know a lot about them so not much help, you could always convert it to an NP205 if it came down to it.
IN my book i'd absolutly buy it if i was in the market for another K20. In my last post i meant to say that the adapter i installed disconnected the front drive shaft from the output in the transfer case, this kept the internals from always turning.

Google this and and other variations, there is a lot of info you can read about that case.

Re: 1967 4x4 full time?
Guys, the "full time" 4x4 system used in your '76 Blazer is completely different than the '67 you're asking about. The full time system used a NP203 transfer case and does require internal modifications to the transfer case to run it with locking hubs. The '67 originally would have had a Timkin or Rockwell part-time transfer case. When the transfer case is in 2 hi position, there's no power going to the front diff.

Re: 1967 4x4 full time?
So not having lockouts in it just means I don't have to get out and Lockey hubs? I'd probably be ok with that.

Re: 1967 4x4 full time?
Correct. However, the disadvantage with the drive flange setup is that the front axles are always turning even when the transfer case is in 2 hi. Locking hubs in the unlocked position essentially disengage the front axles from the front wheels, so the axles aren't continually turning when the wheels are turning. Some owners say they get better gas mileage with unlocking hubs, and they may reduce wear and tear on the front axle parts since they're not always turning.
