Oil leak from around the oil filter? HELP.

Hey guys, a problem popped up and my truck leaks oil from around the oil filter area i believe, BUT I can't find the exact area! It's dripping off the filter itself and onto the headers. It is enough oil to be concerned about so i'd like to get the problem remedied. The motor is a 1967 Large Journal 327 backed by a 4 speed. Please help to find the oil leak and if it is a huge deal or not.. Thanks in advance.

the wrong sized oil filter will cause a leak

if had the actual oil filter adapter that mounts on the block go bad and leak

If it is not the oil filter adapter, you may want to look higher on the block such as the oil line by the dist or the back of the intake, valve cover?

Re: Oil leak from around the oil filter? HELP.

Do you have a external oil cooler? If so look for leaks around the hose side of the fittings. Might check the O ring sealer on the filter... look for two of them or the one that is there could have accidently been damaged when it was installed.

Then again, it is a cartridge filter or a canister filter? If a canister, look for two oil rings up in the block. Might have to take a metal pick and make sure the lip is clean. I cant tell you how many times I accidently let the O ring get a little twisted and then didnt notice it until it started leaking.
