should I paint or not

I have an usual question. I have a set of dart heads that I'm having installed on my 350 and I want the mechanic to paint them orange and he really is trying to convince me to leave them without paint. Does anyone have any pics of their motors with aluminum heads? I'm hoping to see some painted and some not.

Re: should I paint or not

Most will not paint Alum. heads as the shinny metal adds bling and bragging rights. I myself am somewhat of a minimalist and would likely paint them Orange. The mechanic does not want to paint them because it flies in the face of convention.

Most people don't paint aluminum heads unless they are building a "sleeper" or trying to retain a stock look.

Re: should I paint or not

Thanks everyone. Other than the edelbrock intake and slanted valve covers I'm hoping for a more stock look.

Re: should I paint or not

Paint doesn't stick to aluminum as well as it does to iron or steel. It will wear off the heads more quickly than the rest of the engine.

Re: should I paint or not

your engine, do what you want. I would not paint them, especially since valve covers will attract attention anyway.
