Replace with better parts. These transmissions don't have external shift linkage,which is what I think of when someone says "shifter". Your shifter is your transmission with a lever out of the top. Don't know if parts are available,but plenty of used transmissions you could rib the parts from.

Just weld and grind the end of the shifter to fit, and replace the pin that holds the stick in place.

X2 replace the two roll pins on the sides of the shift tower. You may have to weld and grind to fit the slots that the roll pins ride in. Most of the time the end of the shift stick is ok, but it may need a little weld and grind to fit tighter into the shift rails. SM 420 don't generally have the rubber O-rings that isolate vibration from the shifter stick like latter SM 465 transmission do. All the best, Dirk
