What is stock gear ratio in 68 sub?
Can anyone tell me what the stock gear ratio would be (ie nothing listed on spid other than posi) for a 68 sub with a 292 4 speed trans with a posi rear?
Any info is appreciated. Thanks Scott

3.73:1 would have been standard equipment.
3.07:1 or 4.11:1 would have been optional. I assume they would have been listed on the SPID

C10, C20, K10, or K20?
What kind of axle? Dana, or Eaton?

Re: What is stock gear ratio in 68 sub?
Not really sure, found an ad on CL where owner is selling parts. Looking for a 12 bolt series 3 posi so asked him about it, but he wasnt sure of ratio & never answer my question about what kind of rear it was. All the info I have on it thus far is this:

How many lugs are on the axle? 6 or 8?

Re: What is stock gear ratio in 68 sub?
This is my CL ad. It is a 6 lug rear and the ratio isn't listed on the glove box door. I wouldn't know an Eaton rear from a Dana rear from a ducks rear. I'm more of a Ford guy but LOVE this body style pickup and Suburban. Tomorrow when it stops raining (or snowing) and isn't freezing out I can snap a picture.
Sorry it has taken me a whole day and a half to get all the info back to you via Craigslist.

Oh it is a C10 2WD, coil springs in the rear. Took a look underneath and didn't realize it has a two piece drive shaft!

Re: What is stock gear ratio in 68 sub?
I apologize if I sound gruff in my questions, but there are so many factors in guessing what the ratio will be in these old trucks.
If it's an Eaton, the guesses are easy since the most common is 4.10 and 4.57 and there is no after market on Eaton ring and pinion. It it's a Dana, then we can guess till the cows come home because there are aftermarket makers out there offering all kinds of choices for gears in a Dana. Best thing to do is to figure out the ratio by turning the wheel and counting the drive shaft to wheel rotation. Or, pop the cover and count the teeth on the ring and pinion. A few links that might help: http://www.akfabshop.com/alaskaoffroad/axle_tech.htm http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_cata...chevrolet.html http://www.ringpinion.com/b2c/DiffLi...&DriveType=RWD

Re: What is stock gear ratio in 68 sub?
I posted my information from the GM heritage site. SSTim has posted on this site the power team options.
From my readings, Dana axles were installed in big block trucks and Eatons in 3/4 ton
