Donor trucks for disc brakes - GMC same as Chevy?
Hey all,
From reading many threads I see that for a 66 GMC C20 you can use up to (I think) and 87 Chevy C10 subframe/front suspension/brakes and pretty much bolt it in with a few holes drilled. My local yards don't have any Chevy C10s in the year range, but they do have a few GMCs. Anyone know if, for example, on an 86 GMC C10 the suspension/brake setup was different than a Chevy, or if it's a straight-forward swap as well? If it is I'll go grab the parts soon! Thanks! |

Same stuff, 70s-80s trucks came off the same assembly lines.

Also, if you have a choice between a few trucks, look for the cleanest one that has the 1.25" thick (heavy duty) rotors. If it's a self serve yard, then go find as big a sway as you can find from a 3/4-ton or a 1-ton and swap it out for the puny 1/2-ton one while you're at it. If you're going to buy an entire set-up, then install the best parts you can before you pay for it.

Thanks for the info. Chevyrestoguy, did you mean I should install the best parts I can before I install it? If not, can you explain further what you meant?
