gas pedal help in 51 on s10

Hi
So I picked up a 51 chevy truck on a s10 frame and it has a custom gas pedal which is so rigged up I need to change it. I do like the pedal and hope I can still use it but it is so flimsy in design I cannot feel safe using it. Where it pivots...it is rigged with two nuts and then higher up the same way. It is welded to a rod that has a slight bend in it to the carb. I sure would like to keep the pedal but is there anything I could do or buy that would make this work better and secure?

what a ridiculous setup. Much to clean up under here....Sure appreciate the input. thank you.

That is insane looking. I will let other chime in but you can go with a cable set up and use a Lokar floor mounted pedal. I would check all the other work before driving it to much. The steering shaft looks like it has been welding on.

I have to agree with Ossie50 Ditch that setup and run a cable. I don't think you need to blow a bunch of cash on a fancy aftermarket unit unless it fits your build plan though. Most of us would figure out how to make the pedal and cable out of the S-10 work or find one in a donor rig that will work.

mount the pedal so it is comfortable to work with your foot and then drill a hole just big enough for the cable housing to slip through. You might have to take a three corner file and square up the hole for some GM units.

I used an inexpensive Lokar pedal and a Mr. Gasket throttle cable kit. Works great, all for less than $75!!

I used the S-10 pedal in my truck with the stock throttle cable from the 75 Buick car the motor came out of. You can use stock GM stuff and make it look much better than this.

That's just scary, and why Rat Rods and Custom vehicles get a bad name!

If I had a picture of my setup I would share it, but just use GM parts (if you don't have them go to the junk yard and grab them). You'll be much better off and it will be inexpensive.
